After completion of the project, the company needs information and access to further use of the website. The transfer of the site should include a panel, documentation and clear responsibility for maintenance.
Determine where the individual elements work
The site may use domain, hosting, mail and several external services. The owner should know who manages them and where to direct the questions. He does not need to do all the technical activities himself, but the dependencies should not remain hidden.
Prepare a list of accounts and responsibilities without placing passwords in an ordinary document. How to safely transfer access agreed separately. Well separate permissions to edit content from the system administration.
Receive instructions tailored to the site
The general CMS manual does not always explain custom modules. Ask for short instructions for real tasks: adding execution, changing the offer and preparing the photo. The person who will be running the page should perform these activities during the transfer.
For example, the editor may know how to add an entry, but do not understand which field is responsible for the description in the list. The attempt on the new material reveals such deficiencies before self-published.
Check material completeness
The list of transfers may include:
- the address of the panel and agreed accounts;
- a description of the main modules;
- information on services and renewal dates;
- agreed source files and conditions for the use of materials;
- rules for copying and reproduction;
- how to report faults;
- the extent of support after launch.
The individual points should correspond to the contract and the actual implementation. Do not assume that all services are included in the cost of performance of the website indefinitely.
Plan to change the maintainer before you need it
Readable documentation and structured access also help with team changes. A new person should be able to understand basic dependencies without recreating the history of many messages.
