CMS is a content management system. It allows you to develop and publish material through the panel, but the scope of the available changes depends on the specific system and how the site is implemented.
Panel and page perform different roles
The recipient looks at the published website and the editor works in the panel. The title, description or photo is presented according to the prepared templates. Thus, many subpages can maintain a consistent appearance without manual playback of the layout.
This does not mean that every feature of the page can be changed by one click. The text of the service can be edited while changing the form or new integration requires the contractor to work. These limits need to be set before selecting a solution.
What is worth checking for at the demonstration
Ask to perform a task similar to the day-to-day work of the company. Adding an article, replacing photos and changing contact details will tell you more than quickly browsing all panel tabs.
For example, the person running the page should check what an entry with a longer title and several sections looks like. If each time you have to manually adjust the header size, the system may require a better matching of the template or instructions.
Functions require confirmation
Working versions, permissions, history of changes, publication schedule and language handling are useful options, but you should not assume their presence in any configuration. A list of expectations should enter the scope of implementation.
When you talk, ask:
- which content can be added on its own;
- whether the editor sees the preview before publication;
- how photographs and attachments are prepared;
- who manages the allowances;
- what help for error or change that goes beyond the panel looks like.
Comfort does not relieve from maintenance
Content still needs to be checked, and the system of responsible administration. There are rules for access, update and copy. The division of tasks may vary, but should remain understandable to the owner of the site.
The choice of CMS is worth basing on the company's tasks and possibilities of further development, not only on the number of features in the presentation. See website and panel design and how to choose CMS for the company.
