Visual identification of the brand in Warsaw — a coherent system of icons

The icons are part of the visual language of the site and the materials of the company. They should be of a common character and help recognize meaning, instead of introducing further obscure symbols.

The icons are part of the visual language of the site and the materials of the company. They should be of a common character and help recognize meaning, instead of introducing further obscure symbols.

Start with the necessary meanings

When developing the identification for a company from Warsaw, write out the place of use of icons: contact, features of the offer, documents and actions in the interface. Distinguish the decorative symbol from the button that performs the operation. Their tasks are different, even when they look similar.

Do not add an icon to every sentence. If the character does not facilitate orientation, it can only increase visual noise.

Maintain a common design

Pay attention to the line thickness, finish shape and level of detail. Mixing several random sets often makes some symbols look hard and others disappear at the same size.

Check the icons in real size. The detail readable on a large board may be unrecognizable next to a short signature on your phone.

Use symbols consistently

  • The same mark should mean the same action.
  • Similar actions should have a similar presentation.
  • An unusual symbol should be supplemented with a clear signature.
  • Color should not be the only way to distinguish between meanings.

For example, the download icon should not lead once to a file, and another time open the form without explanation. The consequence helps to use the page, not only evaluate its aesthetics.

Prepare rules for subsequent materials

The team should know where to get approved icons and how to add new ones. It is worth keeping them together with application descriptions so that no further versions of the same symbol are created.

We write about the daily use of identification in Brand Rules GuideA coherent icon system combines the appearance of materials with a predictable way of communicating information and activities.
