Making a Leaflet — How to Use Both Sides

A two-sided leaflet gives more space, but requires a thoughtful order of information. The recipient can start from any side, so each should help identify the subject and sender.

A two-sided leaflet gives more space, but requires a thoughtful order of information. The recipient can start from any side, so each should help identify the subject and sender.

Don't assume one beginning of reading

The leaflet may lie the other way round, be placed in a bag or passed without comment. If one page contains only a decoration, the recipient may not recognize its relationship with the offer. It is worth keeping clear context on both pages, although you do not need to repeat the entire text.

First set the role of the material: invitation, presentation of the service or support of the conversation. This helps to decide which information should be visible immediately.

Split interest and details

One page can present the main benefit and theme, and the other explains the scope, course or subsequent steps. Such a division works when both parts form a coherent story. The reverse should not be an accidental magazine of everything that did not fit in the front.

Important conditions without which the main password would be misleading should remain close to this password.

Design a transition between pages

  • Keep the common typography and character of the illustrations.
  • Tie the headers with meaning, not just color.
  • Place contact details in an easy to find place.
  • Remove unnecessary repetitions of long descriptions.

If the material supports a personal conversation, leave space for a short note, if actually used. Not every project needs a maximum filled surface.

Rate print as object

Print both pages, invert the card and check the order of the information. The preview of the two boards next to you does not show exactly this experience. Note the orientation of the text and whether it is easy to find the next part after reverse.

When folding material comes the order of opening, which we describe in guide on the folding leaflet. Good content distribution uses the format, retaining an understandable message also on a glance.
