Graphic projects of business cards: text hierarchy and icons

There is little room for important information on the business card. Readable data grouping and economical use of icons help keep order without reducing everything to small print.

There is little room for important information on the business card. Readable data grouping and economical use of icons help keep order without reducing everything to small print.

Set the order of reading data

The recipient should first recognize the person or company, then its role and method of contact. Not all data need the same size and thickness of the writing. A clear hierarchy allows you to quickly find the right number, even after a long time since the meeting.

It is worth preparing a project with real data. Long e-mail address and extended position can change the proportions of the layout. Do not adjust them only after accepting a pattern with short replacement text.

Group information by meaning

The phone and e-mail can form one group and the location address of the other. The spacing between groups helps more than random lines and ornaments. The recording method should remain consistent throughout the entire material series.

  • Keep comfortable size of small data.
  • Check the numbers and characters easy to confuse.
  • Avoid long passages written in capital letters only.
  • Don't push any more information at the expense of basic contact.

Use icons only when they help

A small earpiece can order a data group, but a set of multiple symbols quickly takes place. Icons should have a common style and not dominate the text. If the meaning of the sign is not obvious, it is better to use the word than to force the recipient to guess.

Check the project outside of the big preview

Print the test in real size and see if the contact can be read effortlessly. Also evaluate less favorable lighting and selected paper. For a series for several people apply common template rules for business cardsA good design does not try to put the entire offer on a small cardboard box; it helps to remember proper contact and retains the character of the brand.
